In a recent interview with FOX News on March 27, 2024, Johnson reiterated his previous remarks, emphasizing the finality of shooting an intruder, stating, “if you shoot accurately, and you kill the guy, you save taxpayers money.”
He further justified his position by highlighting the impossibility of a deceased intruder committing another offense, asserting, “the odds of them re-offending are zero. And we like those odds, which we do.”
Regarding the prevalence of firearms in Santa Rosa County, Johnson underscored his support for residents utilizing their weapons for self-defense within their homes.

He emphasized the seriousness of home invasions, stating, “somebody kicks your door in because they’re not coming in to give you a hug or to give you cookies, they’re coming in to commit felonies.”
Despite facing scrutiny for his previous statements, Johnson pointed out that there have been no reported home invasions in Santa Rosa County since his controversial 2022 comments advocating for the use of lethal force against intruders.
