The incident took place in a New York City apartment that belonged to Vitel's late mother, as reported by ABC.
Upon her arrival at the Manhattan residence, Vitel encountered a man and a woman who had taken up residence in the vacant apartment. A confrontation ensued, resulting in Vitel being forcibly thrown into a wall, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny of the NYPD stated, "We believe that some squatters took the apartment over and this woman came home and walked in on the squatters that were there." The suspects were also captured on surveillance cameras stealing Vitel's Lexus, which was later found abandoned after a crash in Pennsylvania.

Reports indicate that the suspects attempted to purchase a new vehicle for a mere $1,000 at various local car dealerships. Tragically, Vitel's lifeless body was discovered by her son, who, after not hearing from her for two days, sought assistance from the building superintendent to gain access to the apartment.

City officials have confirmed that Vitel's demise was a result of severe head trauma, with additional injuries including facial fractures, a brain hemorrhage, and broken ribs. The suspects, described as a man and a woman in their twenties, are currently evading law enforcement and their identities have not yet been disclosed.
