In a recent development, the iconic Sports Illustrated magazine may soon have a new publisher, but the renowned swimsuit edition may not be part of the deal, as reported by A.J. Perez of Front Office Sports on Wednesday.

Authentic Brands Inc., the current owner of Sports Illustrated, terminated The Arena Group's publishing rights in February after the latter failed to meet a royalty payment, as per Sportico. This decision led to The Arena Group laying off almost all of its editorial staff.

The magazine is now in search of a new publisher or is considering renegotiating a deal with The Arena Group. However, in either case, the swimsuit edition, a significant part of the brand, is unlikely to be included in the new agreement, according to Front Office Sports.

The question arises: what is the value of acquiring the Sports Illustrated brand without the swimsuit edition? This edition is arguably the most sought-after segment of the magazine.

The magazine's reputation has reportedly been tarnished due to allegations of creating fake profiles for AI authors, leading to a significant blow to its credibility. As a result, consumers are increasingly turning to independent creators in sports media for their news and entertainment, showing less trust in legacy brands, particularly those that utilize AI. However, one aspect that AI cannot replicate is the human ability to model a bikini.

In an era where technology, specifically AI, is advancing rapidly and causing apprehension, showcasing the beauty and splendor of women, referred to as "some of God's greatest creations," could be a comforting gesture to the public.

The swimsuit edition has been a significant part of Sports Illustrated's brand, featuring models such as Chanel Iman, Elsa Benitez, Hailey Clauson, Ashley Graham, and Yamila Diaz-Rahi. These models have graced the cover of the swimsuit edition, contributing to the magazine's popularity and appeal.
