Kansas City Chiefs Watch Party Tragedy Sparks Legal Battle As Families Pursue Answers

The families have publicly speculated that Willis may have played a role in the deaths, a claim that a source close to Willis has vehemently denied.

The deceased, identified as David Harrington, 37, Clayton McGeeney, 36, and Ricky Johnson, 38, were found frozen in the backyard of Willis' residence on January 9, two days after they were last seen alive at the watch party. As the families of the deceased await answers, Jon Harrington, father of David Harrington, has announced his intention to file a wrongful death lawsuit.

"There will be a wrongful death lawsuit and a private investigator will more than likely be part of that," Harrington senior told People magazine.

The Kansas City Police Department has reportedly shared the preliminary toxicology report of David Harrington with his father, revealing the presence of fentanyl and cocaine in his system. However, these findings have not been made public yet.

While Harrington senior did not dispute the toxicology report, he expressed skepticism about his son voluntarily consuming the substances. "He loved life," he said of his son. "I am incredibly sure that the outcome of this was not intended."

The police department has stated that there is no suspicion of foul play in the deaths, asserting to Fox News Digital that they are "100 percent not being investigated as homicide[s]."

Despite this, the families of the deceased have speculated that Willis may have been involved in their deaths. Harrington's father previously told Fox News Digital that he and his son's mother were "convinced that Jordan Willis played a part in this somehow" and they "just [hadn't] figured out how yet."

Johnson's mother also expressed fears that Willis had "concocted something and gave it to all three men," while Johnson's father suspected that Willis "drugged them, dragged them outside and waited two days to call police."

Willis' attorney, John Picerno, has defended his client, stating that Willis was unaware that his friends were in danger in his backyard and only discovered their deaths when the police arrived on the evening of January 9.

The bodies were discovered after McGeeney's fiancée, unable to reach Willis or get a response at his door, broke onto the property and found one of the men outside.

A source close to Willis, an HIV scientist who has since moved out of his Kansas City home and spent time in a rehab facility, told Fox News Digital that Willis is considering defamation suits against those who have accused him without basis.

"The latest news story regarding a wrongful death lawsuit is a completely shameless attempt to get more attention when nothing else has even been released yet by the police department," the source said.

The source criticized the families for their public accusations, stating, "Not only have their wild accusations changed as more details were released by the police department, from the beginning, they've allowed themselves to get caught up in the TikTok theories and internet conspiracists trying to turn this into a TV drama."

The source also accused the families of being "completely reckless" for refusing to accept the possibility that their sons could have willingly consumed drugs. "It's not OK for them to try to ruin Jordan's life and reputation forever simply because they aren't able to accept the possibility that their loved ones voluntarily partook in behavior that cost them their lives."

The source concluded by saying that Willis "looks forward to having the opportunity to be able to clear his name."
