LeBron James, the renowned basketball icon, sparked controversy on Sunday when he was spotted entering the stadium and sitting down during the national anthem at a basketball match between the University of Southern California and Long Beach State.

The incident was recorded by Luca Evans, a sports reporter for the Orange County Register.

The footage ignited a flurry of reactions on social media, with many users labeling James' behavior as "disrespectful." Some even suggested that he was on "China's payroll."

This is not the first instance of James showing disregard for the anthem. In the tumultuous "summer of love" in 2020, marked by BLM and Antifa riots, James, along with other players, knelt during the anthem. He was seen wearing a Black Lives Matter t-shirt and saluting other athletes like Colin Kaepernick, who had also protested during the anthem.

"I hope we made Kaep proud," James stated following a game in July 2020. "I hope we continue to make Kaep proud every single day. I hope I make him proud with how I live my life, not only on the basketball floor but off the floor. I’ve been one to always speak out about things that I feel like is unjust. If I’m educated on things, I always go about it that way. So Kaep was someone who stood up when times weren't comfortable, and people didn’t understand or refused to listen to what he was saying."

The reason behind James' attendance was ostensibly to watch his son, Bronny James' first game since his cardiac arrest in July. Bronny had been sidelined for over four months following the health scare. He ended the game with four points, three rebounds, two assists, and a block in 16 minutes of play, as reported by CBS Sports.

"I just wanted to say I'm thankful for everything," Bronny James expressed after the game. "(From) The Mayo Clinic and everything they helped me with, my parents and siblings supporting me through this hard time in my life. I just want to give appreciation to everyone that's helped me through this. Also, my coach, my teammates and other coaches."

As per the same outlet, it is yet to be determined whether Bronny, a player for the USC Trojans, will participate more in the forthcoming games. The Trojans were defeated in the game, with a final score of 84-79.
