In a recent development, two of the three individuals implicated in the arson of a Wendy's restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia, during a notorious Black Lives Matter protest in 2020, have accepted plea agreements, as reported by Fox 5.

The accused, Chisom Kingston and Natalie White, were indicted on charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree arson and two counts of first-degree arson. Court records reveal that both Kingston and White have entered guilty pleas as part of their plea agreements.

As per the terms of their sentencing, both Kingston and White are required to serve five years of probation, pay a fine of $500, and complete 150 hours of community service, as stated by 11alive. Their trial is slated for the following week, and the impact of these plea deals on the final verdict remains uncertain.

John Wesley Wade, 35, the third suspect, was also indicted on identical charges in January of this year. All three suspects initially entered not guilty pleas and waived their arraignments in March 2022, as per The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

These charges originate from a violent Black Lives Matter protest following the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks by the police in June 2020. Brooks allegedly assaulted Atlanta police officer David Brosnan and stole his taser while being investigated for a DUI in a Wendy's parking lot. He then reportedly aimed the taser at Officer Brosnan, leading to Officer Garrett Rolfe shooting and killing Brooks during the confrontation. Brooks' assault on Brosnan was severe enough to cause a concussion, according to AJC.

Following Brooks' death, protesters set the Wendy's ablaze. An autonomous zone was established at the site, which was later dismantled by the police. The city witnessed several violent demonstrations in the ensuing months.

Officers Rolfe and Brosnan were criminally charged by former Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard five days after the incident, as reported by the outlet. Brosnan was charged with aggravated assault, while Rolfe faces felony murder and assault charges. Rolfe was suspended following the incident but was reinstated last spring.

John Wesley Wade, the third suspect who did not accept a plea deal, is a prominent Black Lives Matter activist in Atlanta and led several protests in the summer of 2020. In October 2020, Wade was arrested on federal charges related to a series of violent demonstrations and was sentenced to five years in federal prison in March 2022.

Wade was part of a group of rioters who set Atlanta police vehicles and United States Postal Service property on fire in the lead-up to the 2020 election. The group left notes reading "Stand By" in an attempt to implicate the Proud Boys for the crimes. This phrase was a reference to former President Donald Trump's comment to the right-wing group to "stand back and stand by" during the first 2020 presidential debate. Trump later disavowed them.

Wade was apprehended by the police after he was mandated to wear a GPS ankle-monitoring device at the time of the attacks, having been released on bond for the arson of the Wendy's location in Atlanta, Georgia, where Rayshard Brooks was shot by the Atlanta Police Department.
