A father of three, who survived the tragic events of September 11th while working for Morgan Stanley, has tragically drowned after heroically jumping into Lake Michigan to save children whose raft had capsized on the Fourth of July.

Luke Laidley, 43, was enjoying the holiday near Elder Beach in Winnetka, Illinois, when the raft carrying children overturned at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, as reported by ABC 7 Chicago.

Without hesitation, Laidley plunged into the water to rescue the struggling children. After about a minute, he emerged from the water with the children and managed to bring them to safety, according to Winnetka fire officials.

Laidley was quickly pulled back onto the boat by others, and CPR was administered before he was rushed to Evanston Hospital in serious condition. Tragically, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Described as a "true family man" by his loved ones, Laidley leaves behind his wife, Lauren, and three children aged 7, 5, and 3.
