A suspect accused of a mass shooting in Philadelphia on Monday night reportedly told police that his motive was to help them curb gun violence in the city.

Kimbrady Carriker, 40, commended the officers who arrested him, stating that they were doing a good job.

According to sources familiar with the investigation, Carriker claimed that he opened fire on innocent people and children to assist the police, as he believed that "all these guys are out there killing people."

He also mentioned that Yahweh, or God, would be sending more people to help, although he did not provide further details.

Carriker, who was wearing a bulletproof vest and ski mask, went on a shooting spree with an AR-15 style assault rifle, resulting in the deaths of five innocent victims.

The victims were identified as Daujan Brown, 15; Lashyd Merritt, 20; Dymir Stanton, 29; Joseph Wamah Jr., 31; and Ralph Moralis, 59. Carriker also injured a 2-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy who was a close friend of one of the victims.

The shooting took place in Philadelphia's Kingsessing neighborhood, where Carriker fired indiscriminately at people on the street, in cars, and even into homes.

When he surrendered to the police, he had an AR-15-style rifle, a pistol, an extra magazine, and a police scanner in his possession. One of the firearms is believed to be a "ghost gun," an illegally made weapon without a traceable registration number.

Carriker's roommates revealed that he had been displaying troubling behavior recently. One roommate described him as a "biblical extremist" who believed in vigilante justice and regular citizens assisting the police.

They reported that Carriker had started wearing a bulletproof vest, carrying a gun, invoking religion, and screaming inside the house.

Carriker's social media posts also raised concerns. He wrote about "evil spirits" and conducting "patrols" in his neighborhood, blaming others for the lack of action to address crime in Philadelphia.

He expressed support for the Second Amendment, praised former President Donald Trump, criticized President Joe Biden, and shared frequent biblical references on his now-deleted Facebook page.

In addition to his online activity, Carriker posted photos of himself wearing women's clothing. However, the district attorney's office clarified that Carriker identified himself as male and not transgender.

Asa Khalif, a representative of the district attorney's office, emphasized that Carriker's choice to occasionally wear women's clothing should not be used to attack innocent transgender women.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with Carriker facing multiple charges, including five counts of murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons charges.

The motive behind the shooting spree remains a subject of investigation, as authorities work to determine the full extent of Carriker's intentions and beliefs.
