According to a court filing, the accused Capitol rioter who was apprehended with a dangerous arsenal of weapons near Barack Obama's residence obtained the address after it was shared online by former President Donald Trump.

Federal prosecutors highlighted this connection while arguing for the suspect, Taylor Taranto, to be held in custody until trial.

The court filing stated that on June 29, 2023, Trump posted what he claimed to be the address of former President Barack Obama on the social media platform Truth Social.

Taranto then used his own Truth Social account to repost the address. The filing did not provide further details about the post, but it mentioned that it was a reshare of a 2017 article that is still accessible on Trump's social media page.

After reposting the address, Taranto made alarming statements on Telegram, stating, "We got these losers surrounded! See you in hell," while mentioning the Obamas and former adviser John Podesta.

Shortly after this post, Taranto began livestreaming from his van as he drove through the Kalorama neighborhood in Washington D.C., an area heavily protected by the United States Secret Service.

According to the court filing, Taranto's livestream made it clear that he intended to access or enter the private residences of his targets.

He also made additional concerning statements, including plans to "get the shot." He was quoted as saying, "We're gonna see what we can get, as a shot. If I were them, I'd be watching this, watching my every move."

Uniformed Secret Service agents immediately started monitoring Taranto and apprehended him as he attempted to flee. It remains unclear whether the Obamas were at home during the incident.

Agents discovered Taranto's Chevrolet van nearby, which he appeared to be living in, and found two guns, 400 rounds of ammunition, and a machete inside. Additionally, at least 18 other firearms registered in his name have yet to be located.

Prosecutors stated that evidence relevant to Taranto's involvement in the January 6 breach of the Capitol was also recovered, including a hat identical to the one he was seen wearing at the entrance.

The filing noted that Taranto was among the rioters near Ashli Babbitt when she was fatally shot and was involved in altercations with law enforcement.

The FBI had already been monitoring Taranto's online activity due to his involvement in the Capitol riot and had issued an arrest warrant just hours before his apprehension near Obama's residence.

The warrant was related to a livestream in which Taranto threatened to blow up the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland, as well as House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Taranto has yet to enter a plea in court, and his lawyer could not be reached for comment at the time of reporting.
