Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and his wife Apoorva have announced the launch of a scholarship program aimed at fostering American national pride among the nation's youth.

The program, named the Vivek Ramaswamy American Identity Scholarship, will award ten high school students with $25,000 each for post-secondary education, entrepreneurial endeavors, or their commitment to serve in the military or law enforcement.

Ramaswamy explained in a video that students will be required to submit a compelling and concise video explaining their pride in being American and what it means to them.

Ramaswamy emphasized the importance of addressing the lack of understanding among young people about what it means to be an American.

He stated, "Ask young people across the country today, 'What does it mean to be an American?' You often get a blank stare in response. That's the vacuum at the heart of our national soul." The nonprofit organization Incubate Debate will administer the scholarship program, with a panel of ten judges responsible for selecting the winners.

Ramaswamy cited a Morning Consult poll from January, which revealed that only 16 percent of Generation Z respondents and 36 percent of Millennial respondents expressed pride in living in the United States.

He also highlighted the recruitment deficit in the U.S. military, which currently stands at 25 percent. Additionally, Ramaswamy expressed concern about the priorities of teenagers, stating that approximately 60 percent of TikTok users in that age group would rather give up their right to vote than their social media accounts.

Acknowledging the urgency of the situation, Ramaswamy emphasized that waiting for the government to solve all problems is not an option. He called on parents and those who have achieved the American Dream to step up and address these issues.

Ramaswamy stated, "Many of those problems require those of us who are parents, those of us who have lived the American Dream, to step up and do our part in addressing those problems as well. That's what we're doing today."

The scholarship program is also a tribute to Ramaswamy's son, Arjun, who celebrated his first birthday on Wednesday. The Ramaswamy family participated in their hometown's Independence Day parade on Tuesday, further demonstrating their commitment to promoting American pride and values.
