During his visit to Idaho, Newsom addressed a group of approximately 50 Democrats, emphasizing the importance of supporting Biden's reelection. Many attendees viewed Newsom as a potential successor to Biden, describing him as a more charismatic and progressive figure who represents the future of the Democratic Party in the post-Trump era.

Newsom, however, maintains that his cross-country travels are solely aimed at promoting his party and the current president ahead of the 2024 election. He claims to have no interest in pursuing the White House for himself.

While the Los Angeles Times highlighted Newsom's political activities, it failed to mention that he violated California's own travel ban on Idaho. The ban was implemented in response to Idaho's laws regarding transgender athletes and retroactive changes to gender on birth certificates.

Newsom's disregard for the ban is not an isolated incident, as he has a history of flouting his own rules. In November 2020, he infamously dined maskless at the exclusive French Laundry restaurant with political allies and lobbyists, shortly after issuing guidelines urging restaurants to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, Newsom has been known to travel despite his local responsibilities, such as vacationing in Mexico while Californians were facing dangerous blizzards.

Ironically, one of the reasons Newsom is able to meet with wealthy Democratic donors in conservative states is that some Californians have been leaving the state for Republican-governed states like Idaho, attracted by lower taxes and fewer regulations.
