The Fury 325 roller coaster at Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been dubbed the "tallest, fastest, longest giga coaster in North America."

With a track spanning 1.25 miles and reaching heights of 325 feet, this exhilarating ride reaches speeds of up to 95 mph, providing over three minutes of heart-pounding excitement.

However, a recent discovery by a vigilant park visitor has raised concerns about the safety of the ride. Jeremy Wagner, who was visiting the park with his family, noticed a massive crack in one of the coaster's pillars and managed to capture it on camera.

Wagner, who had already witnessed his 14-year-old daughter ride the coaster eight times that day, expressed his fear of a potential catastrophe, stating, "I'm not an engineer, but that's not right."

The Charlotte Observer reported that the park claims to inspect its rides daily, but had apparently failed to report or address the crack in the support pillar and the joint holding the track in place. Wagner promptly handed over the footage to park officials, who subsequently shut down the ride for further investigation.

Another park visitor, Tiffany Collins Newton, shared a photograph taken on June 24, which appears to show the initial signs of the fracture. Newton expressed her hope that this incident would lead to more thorough inspections and safety checks in the future.

Courney Weber, a spokesman for the park, assured the public that the maintenance team is conducting a comprehensive inspection and that the ride will remain closed until repairs are completed.

Weber emphasized that safety is their top priority and expressed gratitude for the patience and understanding of their valued guests during this process.

State investigators have also been involved in scrutinizing the ride. Tommy Petty, chief of the state Department of Labor's Amusement Device Bureau, confirmed that investigators had already conducted their assessment but did not disclose their findings.

The agency released a statement affirming their commitment to prioritizing safety and promising to provide further information as it becomes available.

Unfortunately, this incident adds to a series of recent accidents involving roller coasters. In Stockholm, Sweden, the Jetline roller coaster at Gröna Lund park derailed on June 25, resulting in the death of one rider and injuries to several others.

The ride, which reaches speeds of 55.9 mph and heights of 90 feet, had been inspected by an accredited inspections company just a month prior, with no reported flaws.

In Crandon, Wisconsin, a roller coaster at the Forest County Festival malfunctioned, leaving riders stranded upside down for three hours until emergency responders could rescue them.

The ride had recently undergone inspection by the state of Wisconsin, but no further information regarding the incident has been released.

As roller coasters continue to push the boundaries of speed and height, it is crucial that park officials and regulatory bodies prioritize the well-being of their guests.

The closure of Fury 325 and the subsequent investigations are a step in the right direction to ensure the safety of thrill-seekers at Carowinds amusement park.
