The FBI has issued a warning about the alarming rise in internet predators using open-source AI technology to generate child pornography and graphic sexual abuse fantasies.

Tech giants, such as Facebook (now known as Meta), have allowed amateur coders to remove safeguards from their chatbots, resulting in a flood of AI-generated child abuse images on dark web forums.

These predators are even sharing "pedophile guides" to AI and selling their pornographic material, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

The release of AI chatbot codes to the public by tech firms, under the guise of democratizing AI technology, has enabled this perverted exploitation.

In February, Facebook made its code public, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg claiming it was a positive force for advancing technology. This move was followed by smaller tech companies. Additionally, YouTubers with large followings have been posting tutorials on creating "uncensored AI."

The FBI has detected a surge in "malicious actors" using AI to transform images of children into sexually-themed images that appear realistic. Thousands of AI-generated child pornography images can now be found on the dark web, leading to what analysts have called a "predatory arms race."

Child safety experts warn that while deepfake child porn may not depict actual images of real children, it normalizes child abuse. Social media networks, including Twitter, have been struggling to remove child pornography from their platforms.

The New York Times recently reported that Twitter has been battling child sexual abuse content since Elon Musk's tweet in November 2022, where he stated that "removing child exploitation is priority #1."

Twitter's head of safety, Ella Irwin, claims to be swiftly resolving the issue, which was prevalent on the platform under its previous owners.

However, a recent investigation by the New York Times reveals that child sexual abuse material (CSAM), commonly known as child pornography, is still present on the platform.

Twitter has failed to prevent the spread of abusive images previously identified by authorities since Musk took over.

The company has also reduced staff experienced in dealing with the issue and stopped paying for crucial detection software.

Transcripts from an anti-abuse organization monitoring viewers of child pornography indicate that Twitter remains a platform where such material can be easily found without detection.
