A lawyer from New Jersey, who has been accused of sexually assaulting or raping at least eight women in the Boston area between 2007 and 2008, appears to have been leading a double life for years after the alleged attacks.

According to FBI Boston Special Agent In Charge Joe Bonavolonta, the arrest of the accused, identified as Nilo, was made possible through the use of investigative genetic genealogy.

This unique method allowed investigators to generate new leads in unsolved sex assaults, homicides, and other violent crimes. After more than 16 years, authorities were able to link Nilo's DNA to DNA found at the various crime scenes in Boston and Charlestown, where the assaults took place.

Forensic psychologist Kris Mohandie explained that living a double life is not uncommon for criminal suspects. They could be individuals from various walks of life, such as police officers, pastors, teachers, or even homeless people.

The core of their behavior lies in concealing their offending and engaging in criminal activity. Mohandie emphasized that these urges do not simply go away and that when the opportunity presents itself, criminals may preplan illegal acts.

Nilo, who is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, continued with his life after the alleged attacks. He obtained a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, worked as a paralegal for two years, and then pursued a law degree at the University of San Francisco School of Law.

He subsequently worked at various law firms, including Clyde & Co. in San Francisco, Atheria Law in New York City, and Cowbell Cyber in New York.

Just weeks before his arrest, Nilo announced his engagement on social media, further highlighting the dichotomy between his public and private life.

Nilo was initially charged with multiple counts, including aggravated rape, kidnapping, assault with intent to rape, and indecent assault and battery.

On Tuesday, a grand jury in Suffolk County, Massachusetts indicted him on seven additional charges, including rape, aggravated rape, assault with intent to rape, and indecent assault and battery.

His attorney, Joseph Cataldo, stated that Nilo denies all the allegations, including the latest charges. Cataldo plans to challenge the government's case both legally and factually.

Following his arraignment and a bail hearing, Nilo was released on $500,000 bail from the Suffolk County Jail on June 15. He was fitted with a GPS monitor. His next court appearance in Suffolk County is scheduled for July 13.

One of Nilo's accusers, Lori Pinkham, expressed concern about the potential danger he poses to the community if he is allowed out on bail.

Pinkham, who claimed to have been working as a bar manager in Cambridge at the time of the 2007 attack, alleged that Nilo forced her into a vehicle at gunpoint near Government Center in downtown Boston.

Cataldo raised questions about the suspicious nature in which the DNA was recovered, but stated that he would address these concerns in due course.

As the investigation continues, authorities are exploring the possibility of additional victims and are examining all the places Nilo has visited to identify any similar patterns of criminal behavior.
