Tragedy has struck another child, this time in New Mexico.

According to the New York Post, 19-year-old Alexee Trevizo went to Artesia General Hospital complaining of back and hip pain. The teen was accompanied by her mother.

At around 1:30 a.m., Trevizo is shown on security footage running out of her hospital room, clutching her buttocks, and heading to a bathroom down the hall. Trevizo's mother followed her to the bathroom but did not enter.

Nurses on duty noticed Trevizo had been in the bathroom for an extended time and became suspicious. Hospital security footage shows one nurse approaching the bathroom with keys about 20 minutes after Trevizo had entered. As the nurse attempted to unlock the door, Trevizo opened it and returned to her hospital room.

When the nurses entered the bathroom, they encountered a bloody scene. Hospital staff first assumed that Trevizo had attempted to terminate her pregnancy. A custodian entered the bathroom and noticed the trash can. When checked, the body of the newborn was inside.

In the bodycam video, when questioned, Trevizo had previously denied ever having sex even though her pregnancy results were positive. Trevizo said, "I'm sorry. It came out of me, and I didn't know what to do. I was scared."

Trevizo's mother said, "I honestly didn't know she was pregnant. I didn't know. I just thought, like, she said, 'I have back pain. My hips are hurting me.'" She also added that her daughter had suffered from back issues since childhood.

A few hours after the incident, while a police officer questioned Trevizo's mother, Trevizo's boyfriend, Devyn Fierro, was also in the waiting room. When questioned, Fierro told the officer he and Trevizo had been in a relationship for nearly two years. He was asked if he was the father of Trevizo's baby. He nodded in the affirmative but did not say whether or not he knew Trevizo was pregnant.

Trevizo's mom asked if her daughter was being taken into custody. The police officer said, “That depends on what the DA finds. We have to wait for the autopsy to come back to see what happened."

Trevizo is charged with first-degree murder, abusing a child, which resulted in death, and tampering with evidence after the baby's body was found. Trevizo has maintained that she thought the baby was stillborn, but the medical investigator has determined homicide was the cause of death.
