The president’s apparent criticism of the Supreme Court provoked significant backlash, with social media users perceiving it as a direct challenge to the judicial branch’s authority.

Biden’s remarks drew strong reactions and prompted discussions across various platforms.

According to Fox News, Eddie Scarry, a writer for The Federalist, expressed disapproval, tweeting, “Sowing distrust in our democratic institutions smh.”

Jim Treacher, a writer for Substack, commented, “If this man believed in the rule of law, his son would be in jail.”

Journalist Julie Kelly responded to Biden’s critical remarks, “Wait, I’m told by the attorney general that criticizing US government institutions is dangerous and tantamount to domestic terrorism.”

Conservative media personality Graham Allen tweeted, “Biden really said, ‘is not a normal court.’ How is bringing justice to the admissions process not normal?!?!?”

“FACT: @ArletteSaenz’s ridiculous question and President Biden’s answer are threats to democracy,” wrote the associate editor of Media Research Center, Nicholas Fondacaro.

In an apparent attempt to head off further critical comments, Biden later elaborated on his declaration that the Supreme Court was “not normal” in a live interview with MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace.

The Democrat President said, “[What] I meant by that is it’s done more to unravel basic rights and basic decisions than any Court in recent history, and that’s what I meant by not normal. It’s gone out of its way to, I mean, for example, take a look at overruling Roe v. Wade. Take a look at that decision today. Take a look on how’s ruled on a number of that are -- have been precedent for 50, 60 years sometimes. And that’s what I meant by not normal.”

After the Supreme Court overturned the historic abortion ruling of Roe v. Wade last June, Democrats have criticized the court as “illegitimate.” While President Biden did not explicitly label the court as such at that moment, he was questioned whether the decision rendered the court “broken.”

Biden summed up his criticism of the highest court in the land with, “I think the Supreme Court has made some terrible decisions.”
