Republican Senator Ted Cruz has responded to a tweet by liberal author Stephen King, in which King mocked Cruz's stance on the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Cruz had posted a video of his interview on Fox News to Twitter, in which he discussed the worsening situation at the border. King responded by referencing a trip Cruz took to Cancun during a power outage in Texas earlier this year.

Cruz fired back, accusing King of being a "multi-millionaire Leftist" who doesn't care about the suffering of migrants at the border or the Americans who have died from drug overdoses. Cruz also pointed out that King's mockery of his trip to Cancun was a distraction from the real issue at hand.

The crisis at the border has worsened under President Joe Biden's first term, with more and more migrants crossing into the U.S. seeking asylum. The "Remain in Mexico" immigration policy, which required asylum applicants to stay outside of the U.S. while their applications were processed, was rescinded due to the pandemic. This has led to a public health crisis that has granted the government extraordinary powers.

Cruz has spent a significant amount of time at the southern border and with border patrol agents, and he has stated that the situation has never been as bad as it is now. He believes that the crisis is an invasion and that families are less safe because of Biden's presidency. Despite the criticism he has received, Cruz remains committed to finding a solution to the crisis at the border.
