The United States Senate is set to hold its first-ever members-only briefing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) this week, with concerns over security and election integrity at the forefront.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced the briefing on Monday, stating that it will be exclusively for Senators. While AI technology is being developed and utilized domestically by companies across various industries, lawmakers, and experts have raised concerns about its potential impact on the 2024 presidential election.

The proliferation of AI applications has prompted fears of "deep fakes" and other AI uses that could disrupt election integrity and political accountability. Internationally, adversaries like Russia and China use AI technology to boost their military capabilities and surveillance. Several U.S. senators have expressed concerns about AI technology and its potential impact on changing voters' minds. Republican Senator Josh Hawley from Missouri said he is "very, very concerned by it."

The President referred to AI as having "enormous potential and enormous danger" during his Oval Office meeting in May with the head of Google, Microsoft, and other companies. Vice President Kamala Harris urged these executives to protect Americans from the potential dangers of AI, stating that every company must comply with existing laws to protect the American people.
