Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy criticized the media on Sunday, accusing them of failing to ask essential questions regarding the special counsel Jack Smith's investigation.

During his appearance on CNN's "State of the Union," Ramaswamy strongly disagreed with Smith's indictment of former President Donald Trump, labeling the investigation as "deeply politicized" and characterized it as "selective prosecution." A Yale Law School graduate, Ramaswamy expressed his belief that the case "reeks of politicization."

Ramaswamy raised two critical questions that he believed the media should be addressing: "What did Biden tell Attorney General Merrick Garland? What did Garland tell Jack Smith?" However, CNN anchor Dana Bash quickly came to the defense of President Joe Biden, asserting that Smith was appointed to ensure the investigation remained apolitical.

Bash emphasized that there was no evidence suggesting President Biden had any involvement in the prosecution and pointed out the presence of two layers of separation with the special counsel.

Dismissing the layers of separation as merely a "fig leaf," Ramaswamy launched a scathing attack on the media for neglecting to ask these crucial questions. He noted that as a competitor to President Trump in the race, he felt it was shameful to pose these inquiries when the media should be doing so.

Ramaswamy underscored the primary role of the political press in holding the U.S. government accountable, accusing them of instead acting as the government's mouthpiece. He urged the media to delve deeper into the matter, demanding answers regarding what Biden conveyed to Garland and what Garland relayed to Jack Smith.

Bash, appearing offended by Ramaswamy's criticism, refuted the notion that the media was doing Biden's bidding. She asserted that they were indeed asking these questions and claimed they knew how to be good journalists because they practiced it daily. However, the tension between Ramaswamy and Bash remained palpable throughout their exchange.

In political journalism, addressing these pressing issues impartially and diligently is crucial. The responsibility lies with the media to thoroughly investigate and report on matters of public interest. Ramaswamy's insistence on uncovering the truth and holding the U.S. government accountable aligns with the core principles of journalism. As the competition for the presidency heats up, it becomes increasingly essential for the media to ask tough questions and pursue the facts to provide the public with an informed perspective.
