The Japanese population has been in decline for 15 years.

Japanese officials are still brainstorming ideas to help increase the population and reverse the trend. However, some people aren’t fans of their ideas.

According to Fox News, “A Japanese Cabinet minister in charge of tackling the country’s declining birthrate unveiled a draft proposal Friday aimed at reversing the downtrend, including increased subsidies for childrearing and education and a salary increase for younger workers to incentivize marrying and having kids.”

The Children’s Japanese Prime Minister declares that the next few years are crucial to reversing the population trend. He says that the population will soon decline, double compared to what it is now.

Several things are contributing to the decline in population. The job prospects don’t look suitable for the people now entering the workforce or those in the force for a few years. There’s a lack of tolerance in public for children, which makes the idea seem unappealing. On top of that, Japan is known for its corporate culture, which makes having a family more difficult.

Masanobu Ogura, the Prime Minister, has revealed several ideas to solve the problem. These include more accessible access to childcare, gender equality in the workplace, financial assistance for families with children, and government assistance for companies encouraging paternity leave.

Fox News says, “Japan is the world’s third-biggest economy, but living costs are high, wage increases have been slow, and about 40% of Japanese are part-time or contract workers. Critics say the government has lagged in making society more inclusive for children, women, and minorities.”

The country tends to be more conservative. Some say that the conservative culture needs to increase the birth rate, but many are against ideas that go against the traditional conservative values that have ruled the country until now. Women that are not married and childless as they get older are often not as respected as others. However, marriage is usually considered necessary before having children.
