Protestors flocked to the Tennessee Capitol to mourn the latest tragedy’s deaths and fight for stricter gun laws.

Throughout the protest, many people can be seen holding up six fingers to represent the six killed people. However, some also held up seven fingers with an extra to describe the shooter. Some protestors declared that every death was tragic and yelled that there were seven lives.

Fox News says,” Head of School Katherine Koonce, 60; substitute teacher Cynthia Peak, 61; and custodian Mike Hill, also 61, were killed in the gunfire on Monday. Three 9-year-old students were also killed: Hallie Scruggs, Evelyn Dieckhaus, and William Kinney.”

The shooting occurred when Audrey Hale, a 28-year-old transgender former student, barged into the school with guns ready. Three employees and three nine-year-olds lost their lives that day. Then, Hale was shot. The incident took place at The Covenant School in Nashville.

At approximately 10:00 Monday morning, Hale shot through glass and entered the building with a handgun and two rifles. Responding officers, including Officer Rex Engelbert, arrived soon after the shooting started, and they began to clear classrooms while searching for the shooter.

Then, Hale began to fire at officers on the second floor. When confronted, Hale wound up shot and dead.

Protestors are calling for a ban on assault weapons to keep children safe. While that’s not what’s happening, Tennessee legislation is taking action. According to Fox News, “U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Haggerty, Republicans from Tennessee, announced on Thursday they will be introducing the Securing Aid for Every (SAFE) School Act following the mass shooting.”

The act will establish a grant program that funds schools so that they can hire and train veterans and officers for security to keep schools safer.
