In Vatican City, there is concern spreading over the health condition of Pope Francis at this hour.

Breitbart reports that the Vatican Press Office has stated that the Pope is being treated for a “respiratory infection” at the on-site hospital in the Vatican at this time. They also note that the Pope will require several days of treatment before he can resume regular duties.

According to the Vatican, the Pope spent the night in the hospital, and various tests were run to rule out other serious ailments or issues. The Pope’s doctors attest that his current health condition does not raise alarm bells.

Media in the area stated that the Pope’s hospitalization was shocking for many high-ranking officials in the Vatican. Bishops and Cardinals had not anticipated that something like this would happen when it did. Italy’s Il Messaggero reported that many high-ranking people within the Vatican keep very close tabs on the latest health updates about the Pope. They are following every twist and turn related to this news.

Breitbart reports that a major reason for all of the concern among Vatican officials is that no one is quite sure what’s ailing the Pope. There is only the vague notion of some respiratory illness being his issue. However, that is a murky explanation for what is going on.

Vatican News published pieces that indicated the Pope is undergoing “medical check-ups in Rome’s Gemelli Hospital,” which was previously scheduled. However, that does not necessarily seem to be the case, as it appears that many people have been caught off guard by the hospital trip recently.

There are murmurings that Pope Francis experienced “chest pain” and respiratory issues. Thus, some feel this could be a cardiac issue and that things might be more serious than some try to make it seem.

For now, it seems very unlikely that Pope Francis will be able to participate in the Palm Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square. This is a significant event on the Pope’s calendar each year, and it seems like he will not be able to attend this ceremony at all. That is a dire and evolving situation at this time.
