Russia continues to tout its nuclear capabilities as the military situation drags on.

Now, it’s preparing for combat with the latest drills in Siberia. The drills are set to involve intercontinental ballistic missiles. Many believe that this is Russia preparing for war.

According to Fox News, “Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday it will be mobilizing its Yars missile launchers across the Siberian regions for military drills involving over 3,000 troops and 300 vehicles.”

The announcement on Wednesday came one day after the Security Council Security took the time to point out that Russia doesn’t want to scare people. Still, Russia has weapons capable of destroying any enemy, including the United States of America.

Yars missiles are one of many included in the Russian stockpile. These particular missiles are nuclear-tipped, meaning they can carry a nuclear warhead. They can hit a target up to 6,800 miles away. However, Russia has not announced any test launches they have planned in Siberia.

On the other hand, Russia announced that it would stop giving the United States a heads-up about test launches. According to AP News, “Russia will no longer give the U.S. advance notice about its missile tests, a senior Moscow diplomat said Wednesday, as its military deployed mobile launchers in Siberia in a show of the country’s massive nuclear capability amid fighting in Ukraine.”

Russia continues to boast of its nuclear capabilities and massive weapons arsenal as more funding and weapons head to Ukraine. Recently, Vladimir Putin announced that Russia would move tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus. This is a reaction to the UK sending armor-piercing rounds to those in Ukraine. The rounds do contain depleted uranium. However, Russia claims that they contain a nuclear component.

Fox News reports, “Putin said the construction of the storage facilities for the weapons in the Russian-allied country, which borders Ukraine and three NATO countries - Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland - would be completed by the beginning of July.” NATO continues to keep a close eye on the situation. However, Russia has suspended sharing information with Washington after suspending its participation in the nuclear treaty. The nuclear arms treaty between the United States and Russia allowed both parties to inspect nuclear arsenals, kept data regarding weapons, and both countries previously notified the other of test launches. This treaty and the courtesy both countries showed one another have helped encourage stability, but we don’t see that now. If Russia plans a test launch, they are unlikely to notify Washington.
