The Nashville Police Department has released bodycam footage of their response to the shooting at the Covenant School on Monday, during which they fatally wounded the shooter, Audrey Elizabeth Hale.

Hale, a 28-year-old transgender former student, had allegedly gunned down three adults and three 9-year-old children.

In the video, a woman informs Nashville Officer Rex Englebert that two children are unaccounted for, prompting him to grab a rifle and lead the charge into the building. Shortly thereafter, gunshots are heard, and officers are seen sprinting up to the second floor of the building, where they engage in an exchange of gunfire with Hale.

Despite the involvement of several officers in the response, police have credited Officers Englebert and Michael Collazo for their active roles in the takedown of the shooter. The two officers' bodycam footage was released together in a single clip.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, Hale had attended the school years prior to the shooting. The killer reportedly left written materials indicating that the attack was "calculated and planned."

The Covenant School, which opened in 2001 and is part of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, serves children from pre-K through sixth grade. The child victims included the pastor's daughter, Hallie Scruggs, Evelyn Dieckhaus, and William Kinney. The adults were identified as Head of School Katherine Koonce, Cynthia Peak, and Mike Hill.

Hale arrived at the school in a Honda Fit, carrying "significant ammunition" and three weapons: two semiautomatic rifles and a handgun. Responding officers took down the shooter within 15 minutes of the attack after she opened fire on them from a second-story window.

Investigators searched Hale's home, located about three miles from the school, and discovered hand-drawn maps of the school, a sawed-off shotgun, a second shotgun, and other unspecified evidence.

Dave Katz, CEO of the Global Security Group and a former DEA special agent, commended Officers Englebert and Collazo for their bravery and disregard for their own safety, stating that "heedless of officer safety, you enter and dispatch the shooter." The Nashville Police Department has released the footage to the public in an effort to bring transparency to the tragic event.
