The discovery of dangerous booby traps in Intrenchment Creek Park near the future site of the Atlanta Public Safety Training Facility has prompted DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond to issue an executive order restricting public access to the area.

Photos of the traps revealed wooden boards with nails hammered into them, which Thurmond noted could "kill a small child or a pet." In a Friday press conference, Thurmond warned residents and visitors to avoid the location, as there could be "other dangerous contraptions and traps hidden" within the park. In addition to the nails, authorities have reportedly found Molotov cocktails and other traps.

Thurmond said, "I am warning all DeKalb residents and others who come to our county to avoid this location," and added, "Someone walking on a trail and trips, a blow to the head is deadly. It becomes not just a hidden trap, it becomes a death trap."

To ensure the safety of those in and around the park, the executive order bars unauthorized access and orders the towing of any unauthorized vehicles. Those caught “moving, removing, or defacing signs posted by this county on the properties will be subject to prosecution,” Thurmond said.

The construction of the Atlanta Public Safety Training Facility has been met with resistance from far-left extremists, many of whom have occupied the site. Authorities have been attacked with rocks, fireworks, and Molotov cocktails, resulting in dozens of arrests and one death. Last month, an attorney with the Southern Poverty Law Center was arrested and charged with domestic terrorism in connection to the ongoing occupation.

As part of the training facility construction, the City of Atlanta has pledged to preserve more than 300 acres of forest for green spaces. However, due to the dangers posed by the booby traps, residents and visitors must follow the restrictions imposed by the executive order and stay away from the park.
