A new poll shows that traditional American values are less highly regarded than once.

Many people are changing their viewpoints related to traditional American values that used to be considered paramount to being a good American citizen overall.

Fox News reports on the poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal that found declining rates of importance by the public on things traditionally thought of as classical American values. For example, only 39% of Americans say that religious faith is essential to them. Only 38% of Americans felt that patriotism was critical in the same poll.

The first time the Wall Street Journal ran these exact figures, in 1998, they found very different figures. At that time, 62% of Americans said religious faith was important. 70% of Americans also reported feeling that patriotism was critical then. As you can see in comparison with today’s poll, the numbers are down sharply.

The Wall Street Journal poll also had some other interesting findings, such as the belief by many Americans that the United States has not done enough to promote equality between men and women. A plurality also stated that they felt that the United States had not done enough to promote equality of gay and lesbian Americans. In other words, there appears to be a shift in the types of values that many Americans have related to what it means to be an American.

Some people have varying views on what is essential in the landscape of American values. Interestingly, in the same poll, many Americans stated that the United States has already done too much to provide equality to transgender Americans. Therefore, it doesn’t seem that all values are cut similarly.

The Wall Street Journal poll was conducted alongside NORC at the University of Chicago, and it surveyed 1,019 Americans with a margin of error of 4.1%. It was conducted between March 1 and March 13.

This poll is just the latest in a series of polls that found many of the same drops in patriotism among Americans. It is a disturbing trend for many people who prefer to live by the traditional American values that have long served the country in times of need. Far too many things are going in the wrong direction compared to where many Americans would like to see them.
