According to Fox 5 Atlanta, the unidentified homeowner was forced to use his firearm, fatally wounding the unidentified suspect, who was taken to the hospital, but did not survive. The gunshots alerted neighbors in the area, including Melan Sydnor, who was in the middle of making breakfast when the incident occurred.
"I was in the kitchen and then there were gunshots and it was really loud," Sydnor told Fox 5. "I heard a few gunshots and then about five minutes later the police pulled up."

Though the incident left neighbors on edge, one unidentified neighbor told WSBTV that having a gun, in this case, was beneficial. "I just think it’s a sad state of affairs for the country," they said. "In this case, somebody having a gun was a good thing."

Joann Proctor, another resident in the area, said criminals are targeting homes early in the morning. "Young guys are stalking the neighborhood at night, like 4-5 in the morning, they checking doors," Proctor said.
The homeowner was questioned by police and released without charge as authorities determined he was defending himself and his home. It is still unclear why the suspect attempted to enter the home or if the homeowner was targeted. The investigation is ongoing.
