Health authorities continue to investigate an outbreak caused by over-the-counter eyedrops.

The eyedrops were manufactured in India. They contain a rare superbug. The bacterial superbug is extremely drug-resistant, making it harder to treat and making the consequences more severe.

So far, there are at least 68 people spread across 16 states that are suffering because of the eye drops.

According to The Gateway Pundit, “Last month, Artificial Tears Lubricant Eye Drops, a product used to lubricate dry eyes, was recalled by its manufacturer Global Pharma Healthcare. The drops were distributed by EzriCare and Delsam Pharma and sold at drug stores nationwide, including CVS, Walmart, Target, and Amazon.”

The company behind the eye drops, Global Pharma Healthcare, is in India. Coincidentally, pseudomonas aeruginosa is a bacterial strain resistant to antibiotics and tends to run rampant in hospitals in India, where the company is located. It’s spread by touching contaminated equipment, hands, etc.

The CDC warns consumers to seek medical attention as soon as possible if they have any bacterial eye infection symptoms, including light sensitivity. Per The Gateway Pundit, “Symptoms of an eye infection include ‘yellow, green, or clear discharge from the eye, eye pain or discomfort, redness of the eye or eyelid, feeling of something in your eye (foreign body sensation), increased sensitivity to light, blurry vision,’ the government agency notes.”

Three people have allegedly died so far. Eight other people have gone blind. Thanks to the killer eyedrops, four people have had their eyeballs surgically removed. If you have any Artificial Tears Eye Drops made by the companies, it’s best to toss them now.

So far, multiple products have been recalled. ABC reports, “More than 10 different brands of artificial tears have been recalled. Most cases have been linked to EzriCare, and Delsam Pharma eye drops, made by India-based Global Pharma Healthcare.”

The CDC warns anyone who has used Delsam Pharma or EzriCare eyedrops and experiences symptoms of an eye infection not to hesitate to seek medical care immediately.
