In a Friday segment with Fox News' Kayleigh McEnany, Gabbard said that the erasure of God from public life, and the attacks on people of faith, were two of the main reasons she chose to leave the Democrats. “This erosion of this spiritual foundation of our country is a direct consequence of those who are trying to erase God from just about every facet of our public lives.” She argued that the consequences of such actions lead to damage "to families, to children, to our communities, [and] to our policymakers — many of whom think that they are God and are trying to control us in every possible way."
This sentiment was echoed by McEnany, who noted the irony of God being "run out of society" despite being an "integral part" of America's founding.

The Democratic Party's attitude toward faith has been further highlighted by recent comments from MSNBC anchor Joy Ann Reid, who claimed Americans are being "held hostage" by a "far-right Christian court," while Iowa's lone congressional Democrat Rep. Cindy Axne mocked Christians during an out-of-state campaign event. Celebrated Christian pastor Franklin Graham also denounced the total absence of God in the Democratic National Convention, calling on Americans to bring God back into public life.

Gabbard, who was Hawaii's second congressional district representative from 2013 to 2021, is currently writing a memoir to be released later this year. This will further detail her decision to leave the Democrats, which she argued was due to their pro-war foreign policy establishment and "wokeism," both of which are currently led by the Democratic Party.
