However, Fox News reports that this course is stirring up a great deal of debate among many in the community as they question if this could be something that they want to have their children taught.
One of the reasons why there are concerns is that it is believed that liberal ideology might be at the center of what is taught in these courses. For example, the high-school level course is titled “Film Academy Ethnic Studies.” It is said to teach students “the histories, cultures, struggles and contributions” of “historically marginalized peoples” with an emphasis on Hollywood and the film industry.”
The school board has already approved the course, but the final curriculum has not yet been finalized. There is a good chance that many in the community will want input about what goes into this course before it is all said and done. Fox News reports that state guidelines insist that ethics courses must “challenge racist, bigoted, discriminatory and imperialist/colonial beliefs” and “critique empire building in history and its relationships to white supremacy, racism, and other forms of power and oppression.”

Those same state guidelines have caused a debate among many states about what is truly being taught in these courses. They certainly want their children to take on ethical questions, but they don’t want them to be forced to learn about liberal ideologies and ways of thinking to access that information. That is not something the parents in this school district (or many others) are okay with. Instead, many parents say that they will potentially have to consider the wisdom of keeping their children in a school that goes on to do something like that.

Fox News reports that one mother in the area stated: “In teaching them not to hate, you’re actually teaching them to be hateful towards people, and it’s very terrifying because we’re indoctrinating children into something that the next generations coming forward are going to be totally brainwashed.”

“They’re going to feel like they are either oppressed or they’re oppressing somebody else, and it’s totally bogus because that’s not something we should be teaching children.”
Another mother said the course was “divisive” and “riddled with critical race principles.”
There are plenty of distraught parents when it comes to this course.
