A woman in California faces multiple charges after allegedly procuring alcohol for minors and even “facilitating sexual encounters” between them.

Shannon O’Connor, 47, is currently being held at Elmwood Correctional Facility, where she was reportedly assaulted by five fellow inmates in October. The women, Erika Amaya, Danielle Chavez, Sophia Vigil, Anita Quiroz, and Marjaana Gardea, allegedly beat O’Connor “with their bare hands” until deputies intervened, according to KRON 4. All five women face one count of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury. The motive for the alleged beating is unclear.

O’Connor is facing 39 charges, including endangering or injuring the health of a child and sexual battery. She allegedly communicated with minors through Snapchat groups and purchased alcohol for them multiple times.

One such event reportedly led to “multiple minors passing out and vomiting from alcohol intoxication,” according to court documents. The District Attorney’s Office claims O’Connor “facilitated sexual encounters” between minors “and watched some of these sexual encounters” in the context of parties she allegedly held for the minors. O’Connor, who has been dubbed “Party Mom” by the media, has been denied bail by a judge who stated that “these felonies qualify as acts of violence.”

O’Connor had a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 6, but the hearing was postponed until April 17, as reported by NBC Bay Area. Despite the serious allegations against her, the alleged assault she suffered has raised concerns about the safety of inmates in correctional facilities.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, but the incident underscores the need for prison authorities to ensure the safety of inmates in their custody.
