Kevin McCarthy says he believes in giving J6 video footage to Tucker Carlson.

According to the Daily Mail, he has repeatedly dodged some questions about what Fox News decided to air from that footage.

McCarthy told reporters he had not seen what Carlson decided to air and wouldn’t comment. He also went after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for attacking Fox for airing the footage. McCarthy said McConnell should be going after CNN for revealing some secure locations where lawmakers hunkered down on January 6.

McCarthy said: “I didn’t see what was aired” and “What I want to do exactly is give transparency to everybody, and everybody can make their own conclusion.”

A reporter told the House Speaker that Carlson said the rioters on January 6 were “mostly peaceful protestors.” McCarthy replied, “Well, that’s what you said.”

Earlier in the day, McConnell went after Carlson for going through the 44,000 hours of footage from that day and cherry-picking the pieces of footage he wanted to show on the air to downplay the events of J6. The Senate minority leader said: “It was a mistake, in my view, for Fox News to depict this in a way that’s completely at variance with what our chief law enforcement official here at the Capitol thinks.”

McCarthy was asked about McConnell’s comments, but he hesitated and wouldn’t truly put much of an opinion on it. He tried to shift away from the question overall and did all he could to deflect all the questions he possibly could.

The House Speaker said: “I hope McConnell would have been concerned with CNN.”

Carlson insisted that the people that came to the Capitol on January 6 were not rioters or insurrectionists. He says that they were sightseers. Despite the differences, McConnell refused to criticize McCarthy for commenting on the footage that aired on Fox on January 6. So, while there is a difference between what McConnell and McCarthy think about the footage aired on Fox, there are some lines that at least McConnell will not breach.

This should be noticed as the days and weeks go by. There may be more fallout from this situation from now on.
