German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has doubled on warnings that China should NOT send any firearms to Russia to aid their war effort.

He is making it explicitly clear that doing so would be a tremendous mistake, and he has made it clear that Germany will respond in some way.

Fox News reported that Scholz’s comments come just two days after he met with President Biden in Washington. The White House warns that China may be prepared to become more directly involved in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Scholz said during an interview on Sunday:

“I think it would have consequences, but we are now in a stage where we are making clear that this should not happen, and I’m relatively optimistic that we will be successful with our request in this case, but we will have to look at (it) and we have to be very, very cautious.”

Scholz did not go into detail about what kind of actions Germany might take if China does move forward with potential plans to aid Russia with arms in its conflict with Ukraine. However, Scholz expressed confidence that he is confident that China will refrain from providing direct aid to Russia in its battle with Ukraine. He feels that he has made it expressly clear what the consequences would be if they did so.

The German Chancellor has returned to Germany after meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday. After the meeting, he also detailed potential weapons deliveries.

During a press conference held after the meeting, he was asked if he had received direct evidence from the United States about any intentions that China might have to get involved in the conflict.

Scholz answered: “We all agree that there must be no weapons deliveries, and the Chinese government has stated that it wouldn’t deliver any. That is what we are demanding and we are watching it.”

He did not go into any deeper detail on this and did not take any more questions on the matter.

The European Commission president also stated that she saw no direct evidence of China moving weapons to Russia. Still, she said that they would continue to monitor the situation.

“We must observe it every day,” said Von der Leyen. She stated that the idea that the EU would impose sanctions “is a hypothetical question that can only be answered if it were to become a reality and fact.”
