A Maryland man, Neal Glessner, has filed a discrimination lawsuit against Dan's Restaurant and Taphouse in Boonsboro, Maryland, alleging that he was banned permanently from the establishment because of his race and age.

The 52-year-old claimed he was removed from the premises on February 18, 2022, and told not to return due to his skin color and age.

The Daily Mail highlighted this story, which has sparked a culture war in the small town. Nearly a dozen protesters stood outside the bar with signs that read "Old White Men's Lives Matter" and "It's Okay To Be White." The conflict also spilled onto social media, with the bar and Glessner providing daily updates to town locals.

Taphouse owner Charlotte Aufdem-Brinke denied that Glessner's ban had anything to do with his age or skin color, claiming that "repeated occurrences of disruptive behavior against members of our team" led to his ban. She also accused Glessner of leading a coordinated personal attack against the business via social media.

Glessner claimed he ordered two burgers and a salad for takeout on the night of the incident. After waiting for 45 minutes, he commented to his friend Judge Joseph Michael about the long wait. The server overheard the comment and allegedly became visibly angry, insisting that Glessner be patient. A few minutes later, Glessner received his order and left. Shortly after that, he said Michael was approached by manager Mike Skinner, who banned them from the establishment.

According to Glessner, Skinner yelled at Michael, saying, "You old, White people act like you own everything. Get the f--- out of here!" The lawsuit alleges that CharDan, LLC, and its employees violated Glessner's rights under the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Glessner said, "There is a deep chasm in our typically tight-knit community. Regretfully, Dan and Charlotte Aufdem-Brinke are trying to paint me as an angry racist who is willfully acting to dismantle their business with what they term 'a frivolous, baseless lawsuit.' This couldn't be further from the truth."

"While I do feel Dan and Charlotte discriminated against me because of my age and race and have sufficient evidence to prove this in a federal court of law, they have an undeniable history of mistreating and discriminating against many others in our community due to age, race, and political affiliations."

Meanwhile, Charlotte called the lawsuit "preposterous" based solely on his "animosity toward my personal views and our advocacy for social and economic justice." The conflict has prompted a discussion about discrimination in the small town and has ignited a culture war between different factions in the community.
