A well-respected psychiatrist says that the mental healthcare profession has been brainwashed about the trans movement.

The Post Millennial reports that some professional listed 13 scientifically false assumptions that he believes have pervaded the trans movement and those who support the idea of children receiving gender-affirming care.

Dr. Stephen Levine testified before the Florida House Health & Human Services Committee on February 21st in favor of banning gender-affirming treatment for minors. Rep. Randy Fine invited Dr. Levine and other experts who testified before the committee. Following this testimony, Representative Fine announced his intention to introduce legislation in the Florida House that will ban gender-affirming treatments for minors in that state.

This would include a ban on medical interventions such as puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and sex change surgery, according to Florida Politics.

Dr. Levine said he believes sex changes for minors could be a medical blunder that the healthcare community ultimately regrets.

Levine also told the committee that it’s untrue that one’s trans identity is unchangeable. He believes this is one of the falsehoods the trans-activist movement continues to push.

The doctor also pointed out the idea that it’s wrong to assume that gender dysphoria is a serious medical situation, but one that should only be addressed if the patient decides that it’s right for them. How can it both be urgent and serious and something that doesn’t need to be addressed unless the patient specifically requests it?

He said: “There is some inherent paradox in that idea,” and “It’s a serious medical condition that implies we should treat it, but we should only treat it if the patient wants.”

Levine also pointed to studies suggesting high death rates among those undergoing a sex change procedure. He suggested that the idea that changing their sex improves their mental health is “questionable at best.”

He also referred to a long-term Swedish study that showed females who had undergone a sex change had suicide rates that were 40 times higher than the general public. He also stated: “So we realize that we are exposing people to the great risk of suicide in the long run,”

He pointed out that the idea that young teenagers know what’s best for their future is also faulty. In his opinion, this is one of the misconceptions that must be corrected immediately.
