An 11-year-old student in a school in Maine said that when he spoke out against pornographic material available at his school library, he was met with an unexpected response from his school librarian.

Fox News reports that the librarian asked the student if he wanted more of the materials that he was speaking out against!.

Knox Zajac, an 11–year-old sixth grader, spoke out at a school board meeting against the existence of the book “Nick and Charlie” being available on school shelves at his school. The book is recommended for students age 14 or older, but Zajac had checked it out. He read aloud from the book at the school board meeting. The book is a fictional story about how two teenage boys steal win from their parents and begin experimenting sexually with each other.

Zajac said at the school board meeting: “This book was on the stand. I would like to read you a page.”

I asked if he should take his clothes off. He was saying yes before I finished my sentence. He then proceeded to read: “My back over my hips. He’s pulling off my T-Shirt, laughing when I can’t undo his shirt buttons. He’s undoing my belt. I’m reaching into his bedside drawer for a condom.”

He then continued to read more of the sexually explicit materials in the book.

Zajac then said the following: “When I rented it out and showed my dad it, the librarian asked if I wanted more and if I wanted a graphic novel version.”

The boy’s father also addressed the Board of Windham Raymond School District.

He said the following:

“I’m that kid’s father… That’s my son, 11 years old and went to his library and found it by the entry door of our library. This is the smut that he is finding, alright? I don’t care whether it’s gay, straight, bisexual, or whatever the terms are for all of this stuff – it doesn’t need to be at our school. It doesn’t need to be at my 11-year-old’s library.”

The father then lambasted another book commonly available in school libraries. That book is “Gender Queer” and features sexually explicit materials about two minors.

The father said:

“We do not need to be having literature that is showing boys how to s*** d*** … you may think the schools know what’s best for our children. You know who knows best for our children? The parents.”

There is quite a bit of anger from many parents related to the types of materials on school bookshelves throughout many school libraries throughout the country.
