CNN is again on the losing side of the rating war.

The Post Millennial reports that the news network has been facing many challenges because it needs help to keep up its numbers in the preferred 25-54 demographic that every news network covets. Keeping that audience glued to your programming is essential to selling as many ads as possible.

The New York Post reported this latest slate of rating numbers out of CNN, saying: "Under CNN boss Chris Licht, the network has slumped." They also indicated that the Don Lemon-led CNN This Morning show is about to end February with the lowest ratings in that age demographic at any time since the show began in November. Lemon was already knocked off his primetime slot on the network after he couldn't keep up with the rating game he needed to do to perform well for the network. That was different for him, which meant he was pushed down the pipeline at CNN to a less desirable time slot.

The morning show averaged 361,000 viewers during the first 24 days of February, according to The Post Millennial. The former morning program at CNN called "New Day" averaged about 430,000 viewers daily. The new morning show is hosted by Lemon, Poppy Harlow, and Kaitlan Collins and garners about 16 percent less viewership than their morning show used to generate. Therefore, the total number of viewers is down rather significantly compared to where it was before.

The Post Millennial also reports that a little bit of controversy on the program, when Lemon was temporarily removed from the program due to remarks that he made about Presidential candidate Nikki Haley caused the show to experience a temporary bump in its ratings. Perhaps something interesting happening at CNN for once was enough to earn them some extra eyeballs on the program for a brief time.

The whole network is suffering from this demographic. The CNN show Anderson Cooper 360 only averages 137,000 viewers in that demographic, which is a 38% drop compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, Fox News's Tucker Carlson can get 465,000 viewers from the same demographic on average each night. Fox News is swamping CNN and other news networks regarding the content they put out for their audience.
