Fox News reports that during an episode of "The View," co-host Whoopi Goldberg expressed her opposition to the recent re-editing of classic books and advocated for disclaimers to be added to the literature instead.

Goldberg stated, "Look, y’all got to stop this. Just put a disclaimer that says, listen, this put was written at this time or put out the original and what y’all have done. Because kids should have the right to read how people thought so that they know how to make the change."

Goldberg further argued that Mark Twain's books had faced similar issues of offensive language, and removing such content goes against the notion of using literature as a tool for learning. She added, “Well that’s how they did it. That’s how it was. We don’t want people doing it today and you don’t see it as much. That’s how people learn.”

Co-host Sara Haines supported Goldberg's view and stated, "art, more than anything," needs to be left alone when it comes to "stories being told." She believed that experiencing discomfort while reading certain languages could be a more impactful way of learning than the alternative of censoring literature. Haines stated, "This will show people when they feel really uncomfortable reading a certain word. That impact can be greater than anything else. Leave it alone."

Ana Navarro disagreed with the recent removal of gender-specific language from fictional characters in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." She argued that it could be seen as an example of "wokeism." Navarro also voiced her concern about the removal of Black history studies from AP courses, emphasizing the importance of not erasing history. She stated, "We went to see ‘Piano Lesson,’ the play by August Wilson. The n-word is used there like every other sentence. And it should make us feel uncomfortable. But it is what it is, and it was what it was and we should not erase history."

Co-host Sunny Hostin appreciated recent edits made to the James Bond book series that replaced the use of the n-word with "black man," "black woman," and "black person." Hostin believed that this approach was more sensitive and did not require the use of offensive language to understand the struggles of oppressed communities. She said, "When you think about a book like James Bond, and I’m a huge James Bond fan, in his Live and Let Die book, in that novel, he visits Harlem and uses the n-word to describe almost every that Black person he sees there. And in my view, the sensitivity of the edits now say ‘black man,’ ‘black woman,’ ‘black person.’ I appreciate that. You don’t have to call me the n-word for me to understand my oppression. And I think when someone who is oppressed tells you that, you should listen."

The discussion on "The View" highlights the ongoing debate surrounding the censorship of literature and the importance of preserving history while being sensitive to the feelings of marginalized groups.
