A statue of Christopher Columbus was vandalized yet again in New York City.

This statue has become the target of certain activists who are seemingly serious about making sure they can take all of the swipes that they possibly can at this statue. Fox News reports that photos were taken of the statue where people had spray painted it with red that reads "murderer" and "land back." These were some complaints from people who were upset that a statue was honoring a man they did not feel deserved it.

Fox News Digital reached out on Monday morning to Central Park police to try to confirm that the incident is under investigation. However, no further information was available when the story went to press.

The statue is at the end of Central Park Mall, surrounded by metal barricades. It is still unclear if any suspects have been arrested or under investigation for this particular action.

The NYC Parks website said the statue was first dedicated on May 12, 1892. New Yorkers of the New York Genealogical Society worked with Spanish sculptor Jeronimo Sunol to get this statue created and put up in a New York City park. The statue was meant to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus.

Fox News reports that many statues of Christopher Columbus and Confederate leaders have been vandalized in the wake of the killing of George Floyd. Some of these statues have even been torn down by so-called "social justice" protestors.

In some cases, local governments have jumped into the mix to take down these statues ahead of time to take down some of the statues to avoid the controversy and potential for protests. Some activists have even asked that Columbus Day be converted to Indigenous People's Day.

The protestors continued to argue that Columbus's arrival in the New World led to mass genocide and caused other injustices.

In certain situations, statues of Columbus and Confederate leaders were torn down after the deadly protests in 2017 in Charlotteville, Virginia. However, the unrest related to these statutes was on a much larger scale in 2020 than it was in 2017.

This continues to play out throughout the country, according to Fox News and numerous other outlets that have also reported on this story.
