The NTSB has indicated that based on its investigation that it is likely the case that the plane came apart in midair.
Fox News reports that the single-engine Pilatus PC-12 aircraft is believed to have come apart midair before eventually landing in Stagecoach, Nevada. According to the NTSB, investigators found debris about one mile from the crash site.
During a news briefing, NTSB Vice Chair Bruce Landsberg said: “How do we know if the airplane broke up in flight? We found parts of the airplane one-half to three-quarters of a mile away.”

According to the NTSB, the aircraft went from Reno, Nevada, to Salt Lake City. The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane was built in 2002 and registered by Guardian Flight.

Fox News reports that Care Flight, a service of REMSA Health in Reno and Guardian Flight, identified the downed plane and said that the pilot, a flight nurse, a flight paramedic, a patient, and a patient’s family member all died in this accident.
