After a major winter storm hit on Wednesday, Governor Tina Kotek declared a state of emergency for Multnomah County on Saturday.

The emergency was not declared until Saturday but is now in effect.

This has highlighted that Democrat Kotek is quite a hypocrite regarding what she has told Oregon residents to do versus what she is doing for herself at the Governor’s mansion in Oregon. While she has insisted that residents switch to electric, the Post Millennial reports that Kotek has had a bid go up for a $300,000 natural gas generator installed at the Governor’s mansion.

The official bid states: “The project includes updating the utility service with backup emergency dual natural gas and propane. Adds a full building services generator to the facility for power, should normal utility power fail.”

The project will include a 500-gallon propane tank and a new outdoor concrete pad. This is all to be taken care of with taxpayer dollars, and the bids are currently up for companies that can do this type of work.

Talk radio host Lars Larson spoke with the Post Millennial about the $308,934 price tag officially listed for this project and said that this is about four times what the project should cost, given what it is. Larson said the project is an example: “Gas for me and not for thee.”

Kotek made a significant appeal to the idea that it should be easier for Oregon residents to purchase electric vehicles if they want to do so. This was the approach she took while she was in the midst of the Democrat race in Oregon. However, she doesn’t even want to follow her guidelines and recommendations regarding her life.

There are other instances of hypocrisy with Kotek as well. She is under fire for not ending the policy of allowing taxpayer funds to fund the travel of government officials such as herself.

Republican state Sen. Tim Knopp sponsored Legislative Concept 3697, a piece of legislation that would end out-of-state travel expenses being covered by taxpayers. He believes that this would hold more people accountable and be able to make sure that government officials aren’t getting away with telling the public one thing and then doing something completely different on their own time. It will be interesting to see if this piece of legislation moves forward at all.
