Things aren’t all so “sugar and spice and everything” nice at Mickey Mouse land in Orlando, according to a report by RedState.

Orlando Weekly reports workers at Disney demanded the world-famous theme park increase their pay due to the economy and because the workers worked exceptionally hard to ensure visitors had an experience of a lifetime.

Disney responded with an offer of a one-dollar increase. The workers flatly refused the increase. A second offer by Disney came a day after the parties returned to the bargaining table. The Orlando Weekly reports that thousands of unionized workers also refused the second offer.

An email from the Service Trades Council Union said, “Despite the overwhelming message sent by cast members, Disney refused to add even one cent to its wage proposal.” “Moreover, Disney’s proposal today reduced retroactive pay for thousands of workers, making today’s proposal even worse than the offer already rejected."

One YouTube enthusiast, “Drunk3po”, reported in his video that Disney is adding insult to injury by attempting to entice employees to spend their money at the park by giving them a 50 percent discount on the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience. The experience is reportedly not living up to its expectations.

In a nutshell, Disney does not want to increase wages. The powers that be want the employees to be excited about receiving no increase but can spend the money they earn by pouring it back into the company. This strategy is a win-win for Disney as it will make it look like the battered Galactic Starcruiser is a popular experience, which would generate more tourist participation and money. It also means employees would be helping the theme park’s pocketbook by putting their hard-earned money back into the park.

The proposal comes across as a great marketing and money-saving idea for Disney, but employees are saying no way. Meanwhile, according to the Disney tourist blog, Universal Studios, also in Orlando, announced an increase for their employees to $17 per hour.
