Here is something interesting that some people might have yet to think about all that carefully.

It is a fact that Democrats need to prepare for a scenario where President Joe Biden does NOT seek re-election. The Post Millennial reports that some leading Democrats are considering that scenario.

The White House has repeatedly sought to reassure the American people that President Biden will seek re-election. Still, it remains an open question in the minds of some people. There hasn’t been an official announcement from Biden himself at this point, and many have questioned if he is up to the task given his age.

A new report from Politico states that “the president no longer seems absolutely certain to go for a second term...” This is on the heels of the promise of continued support for the war effort in Ukraine.

Insiders in the party are quietly preparing for what they will do if Biden does not make a run for the White House. Conversely, former President Trump has already announced his 2024 run and has been on the campaign trail for months. Also, the Post Millennial reports that the Democrats and Biden have had “a less-than-robust fundraising total” for the first quarter of 2023.

Politico reports that one staffer for a 2020 candidate told them: “Without being overly aggressive, everyone’s still keeping the motor running just in case and they’re not being bashful about it.”

That source also said: “On the phone, everyone is very clear and has the same sentence up front: ‘If Joe Biden is running, no one will work harder than me, but if he’s not, for whatever reason, we just want to make sure we’re prepared for the good of the party.’”

There is no doubt that the field has plenty of people who would like to become President someday. California Governor Gavin Newsom was someone who had a lot of buzz around the possibility that he might run for the Democrat nomination earlier on. He has repeatedly denied that this is something that he wants to do, but he also seems like he is not entirely taking himself out of the running to make this a reality.

Other names tossed out include Illinois’ JB Pritzker and Phil Murphy of New Jersey. Overall, many candidates can potentially become the kind of person who might take over the mantle of becoming the head of the Democrat Party.
