An 80-year-old janitor at a high school in Texas had to come out of retirement to earn enough money to pay for his increasing rent.

The Blaze News reports that when some of the students at the high school heard about what the janitor had to go through, they pulled together and decided that they would help raise the funds he needed to help keep him in his living space.

The Callisburg High School janitor is known as Mr. James. Sadly, he couldn't make ends meet when his rent was increased by $400 monthly. He had to come out of retirement to get the funds together to take care of that increased rent.

Three students from his school heard about his story and decided they must do what they could to help the janitor. That is when they started a GoFundMe campaign for him. They started with the modest goal of raising $10,000 for the janitor. However, they were quickly and easily able to blow through that goal, and as of this writing, the campaign has raised more than $162,000 for the janitor from more than 5,200 donors.

“Nobody deserves to work their whole life. They deserve to enjoy everything,” said student Greyson Thurman. He was one of the campaign organizers, and he is pleased with how this has all worked for the janitor that the students love so much.

The Blaze News reports that Mr. James has declined to take interviews on this subject, and it doesn’t seem that he will quit his job because of the money raised on his behalf. Instead, he appears to be blown away by all that has been done for him to help out with this.

Callisburg Principal Jason Hooper said that he was proud of the effort of his students to raise money for the janitor. “Its just amazing,” he told KXII-TV. He followed this up by saying:” You know of the need that was met because of three kind kids, but of all of our students who have pitched in to help that need.”

All of this is heart-warming, and it is a great story that shows that people can do amazing things for others when they are willing to work on helping others they care deeply about. This is why we should all applaud what these students have done.
