Kohberger's arrest on December 30, at his parent's house in the Pocono Mountains, followed intense national media coverage and a surge of online discussion on platforms such as Facebook and Reddit.
According to an unnamed source cited by People, police allegedly found multiple pictures of one of the four victims on Kohberger's phone. The victims, aged between 20 and 21, were identified as Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. The source did not specify whether the photos were taken by Kohberger or if the pictures were sourced from social media.

The source added that Kohberger had more than one picture of the victim on his phone and appeared to have been paying attention to her. In court filings, police had alleged that Kohberger had stalked the King Road home where the murders occurred at least a dozen times before the late-night stabbings and had returned to the scene after the killings.
