On Thursday, the two individuals from Pennsylvania filed a lawsuit demanding that the railway company pay for medical evaluations and related treatments for people residing in a 30-mile radius of the derailment.

Environmental agents are working at the area to examine the water and air quality and have so far determined that it has been unaffected. EPA spokesman James Lee said the agents with local teams “established a series of containment measures to help limit the environmental impact to local streams and rivers from water runoff from the site,” to reassure the locals that they are safe. Lee added that some of the work involves placing dams “to capture contaminants that may leave the derailment site” as well as “high volume aeration stations to help remove contaminants from Sulfur Run.”
Despite the efforts, some local residents complained that they have suffered from headaches and have not felt well since the accidents. Other residents demanded more actions to clean the site.
