The Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm, held a private meeting with the head of the organization that financed the latest research used to ask for prohibitions on gas-powered stoves despite the Biden administration denying that they were aiming for such a ban.

The government watchdog organization Americans for Public Trust procured an internal agency calendar displaying that Granholm conversed with Jules Kortenhorst, the Chief Executive Officer of the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), as reported by Fox News.

Kortenhorst, a climate activist, was appointed to lead the World Economic Forum's Global Future Council on Net Zero Transition and created the Energy Transitions Commission.

There was no predetermined schedule for the meeting, but it was held via Zoom and took approximately one hour.

Fox News reported that according to the APT executive director Caitlin Sutherland, Gretchen Granholm's schedule contradicts the Biden administration's assertion that the potential ban of gas stoves is not factual.

Sutherland expressed that, contrary to the Secretary, Granholm's statement that stories about the Biden administration banning gas stoves were "ridiculous" and "not true," her calendar revealed a different story. "We’ve now learned that she consulted with the dark money group pushing to ban gas stoves."

"Suffice it to say, 'ridiculous' and 'not true' proposals don’t ordinarily involve a meeting with the Secretary of Energy — and where there's smoke, there's fire," said Sutherland. "Americans

everywhere must demand Granholm and green energy extremists stay out of their kitchens."

The RMI is an organization of professionals from a variety of backgrounds that strives to push the adoption of clean energy sources.

The website of RMI outlines "RMI decarbonizes energy systems through rapid, market-based change in the world’s most critical geographies to align with a 1.5°C future and address the climate crisis. We work with businesses, policymakers, communities and other organizations to identify and scale energy system interventions that will cut greenhouse gas emissions at least 50% by 2030."

RMI funded an analysis in the past year conducted by Talor Gruenwald and Brady Seals, which drew attention for its assertions about the risks to public health from gas stoves. The report suggested a potential link between gas stove use and asthma in children, and this was used to back up the proposal to ban gas stoves.

At the time, Richard Trumka Jr, Commissioner of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, warned Bloomberg that "this is a hidden hazard" and declared that "Any option is on the table. Products that can’t be made safe can be banned."

Shortly after the research gained attention, Alexander Hoehn-Saric, the Chair of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, released a statement indicating that although the study pointed to possible risks of gas stoves, "I am not looking to ban gas stoves and the CPSC has no proceeding to do so."

On Twitter, Granholm emphasized the importance of the research by tweeting on January 4, "We can and must FIX this. Through [President Biden's] Inflation Reduction Act, Americans will have greater access to Electric and Induction Cooktops: keeps pollution out of the home. Cooks food faster. Helps families save money."

The White House expressed their opposition to the proposal of a gas stove banning following the uproar of discontent. Granholm labeled the notion of a ban on these stoves as "ridiculous".

Fox News reported that the Department of Energy recently ignited a discussion saying "proposing tight efficiency regulations that would restrict consumers' gas stove purchases in the future. Overall, the Biden administration took more than 110 actions on similar energy efficiency standards throughout 2022."

"One huge piece of this, of course, is making sure that we electrify and create efficiencies within the home environment," Granholm said in December during the White House Electrification Summit. "This is our moment to work together to deploy, deploy, deploy, and to get to that clean energy future that we all care about."

RMI's partners with the Chinese government in order to research alternatives to traditional fossil fuels. RMI has a Beijing office as well.

In 2013, the Washington Free Beacon reported a collaboration between the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission. The two organizations released a report which suggested that China replace current appliances and generators with more "clean energy" technologies.

After implementing the changes, provinces that failed to comply with the changes, energy rations were implemented causing "dimmed traffic lights that cause chaos" as well as "half-cooked rice in rice cookers."

The board of the RMI is comprised of executives from renewable energy firms, including Broad River Capital's founder and chairman, Wei Ding.

The Department of Energy awarded RMI a $4.4 million grant in March 2022, which will be used to demonstrate "an integrated retrofit package of envelope panels, a heat pump pod, and innovative financing"

Visitor logs show that the White House's climate czar, Ali Zaidi, "met Jules Kortenhorst, RMI's CEO at the time; John Coequyt, RMI's government affairs director; and Sarah Ladislaw, RMI's former managing director and U.S. program leader, on March 17, 2022, in the West Wing of the White House, according to visitor logs."
