In particular, Fox News reports that Canada Goose jackets are an attractive target for thieves. There have been a lot of people who have been targeted while wearing this type of jacket in recent weeks.
George Washington University student Naiyu Kuo spoke to Fox5 about the issue and said: “I’m a student here and this is my campus, so I just want to be safe.”
Two of the recent thefts occurred near campus, and this is why George Washington University has specifically told students that they should avoid wearing Canada Goose jackets while on campus.

Fox5 reported on the alert sent out to students about the matter. That alert read:

“While none of the incidents have occurred on campus, two took place near the Foggy Bottom campus on February 1, 2023. Jackets have been taken off of victims, and in some cases, weapons have been brandished.”

Canada Goose jackets are costly, with some of these jackets going for as much as $1,500.

One incident occurred in broad daylight when a couple from New York was visiting Dupont Circle with their son when they said they were approached and forced to turn over their Canada Goose jackets at gunpoint.
Julian Kaufman spoke with NBC Washington and said: “I’m an attorney from the south Bronx, living in rough neighborhoods in New York, so I thought I would be well-equipped.”

Sheila Kaufman stated, “And all of a sudden someone’s like, ‘Gimme your coat! Gimme your coat!’ And I thought, is this a joke?”
And followed that up by saying:
“And then he waved a gun by me … and I took it off and gave it to him.”

Fox News reports that police took video of the suspects who took off in a car.
NBC Washington reported that this is the latest incident related to these jackets. They said a Howard student was surrounded by three suspects and punched and robbed of their jacket last month.
Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Patrick Loftus told the news network earlier in the month the following:
“We want people to cooperate.”
and
“Property is not worth your life. Give away that property, try to get a good description of that person, and we want people to call 911.”
Canada Goose merchandise has been the target of thieves in other cities, particularly in Chicago. There have been many smash-and-grab incidents in those stories as of late.
