An anarchist bakery owner in Oakland, California, has died after a violent robbery that occurred on Monday.

According to the Post Millennial, Jen Angel, 48, was dragged fifty feet after struggling with two men who tried to steal her purse.

Angel described herself as an anarchist and an avid social justice advocate, and she had a policy against calling the police. She stated that she believed that the police should be abolished. She might not have thought this same way if she had understood the fate she would meet later.

CBS News reports that around 12:30 pm on Monday, the suspects broke into Angel’s car and began to try to grab her purse. She charged after them, but she got caught in the door of their getaway car and dragged fifty feet or so to her death. She was rushed to the hospital, but the medical team could not save her.

Her family announced on Thursday that she was “medically declared to have lost all brain function and will not regain consciousness.”. They also released a lengthy statement about her personal views about law enforcement and other topics she felt passionate about.

The family wrote the following: “As a long-time social movement activist and anarchist, Jen did not believe in state violence, carceral punishment, or incarceration as an effective or just solution to social violence and inequity,” and “Jen would not want to continue the cycle of harm by bringing state-sanctioned violence to those involved in her death or to other members of Oakland’s rich community.”

Post Millennial editor Andy Ngo reports that Angel had a lengthy history of being opposed to everything related to law enforcement. She refused to call the police for herself and indicated that she believed police departments throughout the country should be abolished.
