His call was for people to donate alcohol and marijuana to those who live in the homeless encampment.
The Peterborough Examiner reports that Bierk shared a photo on Twitter showing a case of beer being sent down to some of the areas known for having homeless encampments. This caused great concern for Coun. Dave Haacke, but Coun. Matt Crowley says that Bierk knows what he is tweeting about.
This is a request Bierk made to supply homeless people with the things they want “without judgment.” He bills himself as a first-term Town Ward councilor who cares about the needs of the homeless, marginalized, and other groups. He even admits in public that he has also suffered from addictions in the past.

He says he has overcome those addictions but still, advocates for the homeless to receive things that many people think will only serve to feed their addictions.

On Monday, he spoke with The Examiner and said that he did not personally donate beer or weed to those in the encampments; however, he did not seem to drift too far away from the idea of continuing to ask people to donate these types of things to people in those encampments.

Some Twitter users were all about cheering on everything that Bierk was advocating for. Still, others were questioning his motives and wondered why he would push for such strange donations to people who may be struggling with addictions themselves.

Bierk tweeted later in the weekend: “A lot of heat for handing out tall cans, but the outpouring of donations has been incredible.”
Then, later Monday, he texted The Examiner to clarify his position. He stated: “I handed out some tall cans of beer to people I know living outside.”

He is an elected official, but he continues to state that his call to provide people in the homeless encampments with weed and alcohol was not a statement he made as an elected official. Instead, he stated that he made those calls on his accord.
